The track is entitled Light Up and features an appearance from the big homie Jay-Z, also a co-production credit to Drakes engineer ’40′.
The Toronto based group has done work in the past for artists like The Game, Mobb Deep, Busta Rhymes and Big Boi just to name a few.

And Oh Yea……

MUST HAVE ALBUMS OF 2010

2010 is the year of the MC; and many artists will be releasing their debut albums this year, so we thought we would make a list of 10 most anticipated albums that are set for 2010 releases.

THESE ARE IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER

Pacific Division – Grown Kid Syndrome

This LA based trio has had everyone bumping their first mixtape Church League Champions last year, including the boy Diddy who apparently is a big supporter. With several videos on YouTube and a big internet following already in motion Pac Div are set to release their second tape entitled Don’t Mention It in the second quarter of the year. Their official album is rumoured to have production from The Neptunes, so we can expect some great summer day jams from these up and comers. Look for Grown Kid Syndrome summer 2010.

Common – The Believer

Chi Town native Common has truly made the switch from underground hip-hopper to Hollywood red carpet pimping. With a successful acting career already underway Common is set to make a return to the music scene with his new album entitled The Believer. Common didn’t receive the best reviews from critics on his last album Universal Mind Control which featured an up tempo dance theme throughout, with production by Pharrell and Mr DJ. Common is taking it back this year with production from fellow Chicago men Kanye West and No ID, the album is set to pick up where Be left off and is a return to his hip-hop roots. Album is due for a summer 2010 release date.

B.o.B. – The Adventures of Bobby Ray

After linking up with TI’s Grand Hustle team this Atlanta native released the pop friendly single Nothing On You late last year. With a few mixtapes and tons of tracks floating around, a May release date is now the official word on his release The Adventures of Bobby Ray. With the ability to merge sing-a -long tunes with some hip-hop flavour it’s hard to say what to expect from this young man. But with a rumoured collaboration list including Eminem, Lupe Fiasco, Rivers Cuomo (Weezer) and TI, we can certainly expect a great album, look for it May 2010.

J Cole – To Be Announced

The Roc Nation man had quite a year in 2009. Being signed to Jay-Z label, appearing on tracks with Reflection Eternal, Mos Def, Jay Electronica and Wale it’s clear that his work ethic is fierce. His mixtape The Warm Up was a testament to the art of Emceeing, and was apparently what attracted notice from the big homie Jay-Z. With his single Lights Please getting some play across airwaves and his video for Simba gaining views by the hundreds each day it’s clear to say that J Cole is here to stay. His debut album which is still untitled features production from Pharrell, No ID and J Cole himself, that’s right….he makes beats too. Check for it late spring/summer 2010.

Jay Electronica – ACT II: Patents of Nobility

Never before has an artist come along like Jay Electronica and sent a shock way through the hip-hop nation with a song like Exhibit C. The dude has only dropped 2 songs in an entire year and has the whole world awaiting his next move. The New Orleans native has been rapping for quite some time but had not received any industry attention before releasing Exhibit C with Just Blaze. The track apparently shut down iTunes the day it was released, due to the amount of people trying to download it at once. If that is not a testament to the power of hip-hop, we don’t know what is. The compelling lyricist is ready to release his first official project entitled ACT II: Patents of Nobility with featured artist including Just Blaze, Nas, Mos Def and Eminem (rumoured). Look for is to drop second quarter of 2010

Lupe Fiasco – Lasers

Our second Chicago Native on this year’s list has been working on this album for close to two years. He dropped a mixtape early this year called Enemy of the State which quickly grabbed everyone’s attention and redirected it at what the versatile artist had been up to lately. His first single Shining Down was released last summer, followed up by this year’s I’m Beaming; those are the first two releases of the album entitled Lasers. Look for another single closer to release date from Lupe’s camp, album is set for the first half of 2010.

Kid Cudi – Cudder: The Revolution of Evolution

Where MOTM was dark and gloomy, Kid Cudi says Cudder will be the day to its night. A change in personality and lifestyle has allowed this young artist to reflect a lighter mood with his second official release entitled Cudder: The Revolution of Evolution. He has expanded his horizons beyond his in-house production team of Emile and Plain Pat to the likes of Kanye West and The Neptunes. The album should consist of some serious party anthems and should be a soundtrack to any college kids weekend routine. Look for it to drop second half of 2010.

Eminem – Relapse II

Eminem is said to be extremely focused and has changed his style from the punch-line driven shock rap to a more enduring, emotive sound. Working mainly with producer Just Blaze, the heavy drum and sampled driven melodies should lay a good backdrop for this talented MC to tell his story. This album should feature a heavy anthem type single to kick off the promotion, were thinking something in between Live Your Life and Lose Yourself. Album is reported to have a release in the first half of 2010.

Kanye West – To Be Announced

Tucked away in hiding Kanye West has been locked in the studio for the better half of 2010. With numerous production credits this year, there is no telling where his diverse beat making style has taken him. But with the ambitions of Kanye West, we believe it is set to be one of his finest releases to date. Following the depressing synth driven 808’s and Heartbreaks we expect a return to the top of music, with heavy sampled beats and those catchy punch lines everyone has grown so fond of. Look for the untitled album in the second half of 2010.

Drake – Thank Me Later

He absolutely owned 2009 with a classic mixtape and a slew of guest appearances, so expectations could not be higher for Drizzy’s long-awaited debut. By sticking with his trusty in-house producers and sprinkling in a few superstars, he should be able to match the perfect balance of wittiness and R&B that made So Far Gone such a hit. At this point, 2010 is his to lose. Look for it March 2010.

news: +SUPERGROUP ALERT

In the works right now is a newly formed super group including Mos Def, Jay Electronica and Curren$y, the group will be called Center Edge Territory. Apparently having recorded up to six tracks already, the group was formed while realxing at Dame Dash’s new music studio/art gallery DD172.
“That’s ridiculous!” Curren$y said. “Jay Electronica is from my city, he’s from New Orleans. I never met homie until I stepped foot in this building. He came here to meet Mos. And Mos, I had only known him for 24 hours prior to that. But genuine people could recognize [each other], it was like, ‘Let’s go.’”

+THE MIXTAPE REVOLUTION

mixtape
They started as cassette disks from the 80’s reflecting the maker’s personal tastes in music, now a days they are one of the most powerful marketing and promotional tools for an artist. Never before have artists created such buzz and hype to attract labels interest so quickly.
Although mixtapes have been instrumental in supplementing the marketing and promotions endeavors of record labels, and are utilized by major acts with the implicit support of their labels, the Recording Industry Association of America, a political lobby group funded by the major record corporations, classifies these mixtapes as bootleg or pirated music CDs. Back in January 2007, DJ Drama and fellow mixtape king Don Cannon were arrested in Atlanta. The two were charged with RICO act and were slapped with a $100,000 bail bond. Police apparently seized 81,000 mixtapes, four vehicles, recording gear and “other assets that are proceeds of illegal activity”.
As mixtapes evolved from a street-corner phenomenon to a cornerstone of the hip-hop industry, record companies have tried to figure out ways to cash in. Mixtape DJ’s like DJ Clue, DJ Kay Slay and others have released major-label compilations full of tracks that abide by copyright rules. But it’s not easy to turn a mixtape into something you can legally sell: part of the fun is hearing rappers remake one another’s songs and respond to one another’s taunts; a great mixtape captures the controlled chaos that hip-hop thrives on.
It is also clear that mixtapes can actually bolster an artist’s sales. The Lil Wayne solo album, Tha Carter II (Cash Money/Universal), sold more than a million copies, though none of its singles climbed any higher than No. 32 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. That’s an impressive feat, and it’s hard to imagine how he would have done it without help from a friendly pirate.

+CLIPSE – new album due early next month -

clipse
Til the Casket Drops is the highly anticipated third release from the Virginia hip-hop twin sensation Clipse. With three singles already released, the album is looking to be a great return to the spotlight after their sophomore slump Hell Hath No Fury.
Production list includes long time collab pals The Neptunes, along with a handful of other including; DJ Khalil and Sean C & LV. Guest expected to appear on the album include hip-hop elites like Kanye West, Cam’ron, Rick Ross, Pharrell and Keri Hilson.
I urge everyone to go grab the new album when it drops next month, release date is set for December 8th, 2009.
